Yesterday I went on my second outing to Blikkiesdorp. I accompanied Clarina Hanekom (founder of the organisation, Tin Can Town), Vickie Collins and two big hearted ladies from Australia, Tegan and Paige. Tegan and Paige had somehow discovered about this little forgotten "town" near Delft in Cape Town who's poor, isolated community needed help desperately with their animals. They raised over R20 000 to help with food and medical expenses, and brought in collars and leads for the dogs who often are tied with wire, string or chains.
We collected Sasha, Fluffy and Puppy from the Animal Anti Cruelty League where they had been receiving medical attention and returned them to their people, and picked up Tina Turner, Colonel and Optel (meaning Pick-up, and she was very true to her name!) and took them to Joostenberg for cancer treatment.
An amazing experience once again, I was so moved by the love and dedication of these ladies who give up their own time, resources and love to help those who need it most.
Tin Can Town are in desperate need of financial assistance to cover the costs of the food as well as the dip and basic vetinary care that is provided on-site, they also need help with the more extreme medical cases that they take away for treatment (broken limbs etc). Please help - very bit makes a huge difference to the animals!
