Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu celebrated his 86th birthday on Saturday 7th October. After the prayer ceremony at St George’s Cathedral the official unveiling of the Arch for Arch commenced. The project was commissioned by Design Indaba, sponsored by Liberty and constructed on site next to St George's Cathedral at the entrance to the Company Gardens by my client Swissline Design. The monument commemorates the work and life of the Archbishop and stands as a symbol of diversity, unity and faith in humanity. The 14 lines from the preamble of the South African Constitution arc around the entrance to the arch. It was a wonderful experience being part of this historic event and celebrating the birthday of such a precious and iconic South African.
